BC Citizens for Public Power will host a gathering of concerned British Columbians -- from activists to academics, environmentalists to energy experts, as well as filmmakers, First Nations leaders and other public power devotees. More Power to You is a conference for community and environmental activists organizing to protect public power in British Columbia.
 

BusinessWeek audience hears NUPGE on public health care

Ottawa (17 June 2008) - Health care is a major presidential election issue in the United States this year and Canada's public Medicare system and its advocates are attracting a lot more attention than normal.

BusinessWeek magazine recently asked James Clancy, president of the 340,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees, to participate in its Debate Room forum on the pros and cons of the Canadian system.

BC Federation of Labour to hold conference for young workers

The B.C. Federation of Labour is pleased to announce its Young Workers Conference May 30 and June 1 at Camp Jubilee.

The conference is open to new and experienced young worker activists and is part of an action plan developed to encourage participation in the labour movement. The B.C. Federation of Labour is committed to identifying support and engaging more young people in the labour movement.

HSA convention delegates hold rally to Stand up for Medicare

The Health Sciences Association of BC (HSA) will kick off its 37th annual convention Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby, 6083 MacKay Avenue.

Charting our Course is the theme of this years convention, as delegates consider a number of resolutions to set priorities for the unions future. Delegates will also participate in a noon-hour rally to defend publicly funded and delivered health care.

Think Community Forum March 26 focuses on solutions for our communities

Local and regional issues are on the agenda for a New Westminster and District Labour Council meeting March 26th as part of the labour council's 2008 Municipal Election Program.

The Think Community Forum will open with guest panelists who will share their experiences and innovative approaches to bring lasting, positive change to our communities and schools.

Celebrate International Women's Day in Nanaimo

The Canadian Labour Congress hosts an International Women's Day lunch Saturday, March 8 at the Nanaimo Golf Club featuring guest spearkers Jean Crowder, MP,  Nanaimo-Cowichan; Jackie Miller, President, BC Ferry and Marine Workers Union, and Claire Trevena, MLA, North Island and Opposition Critic for Childcare, Early Childhood Education & Women's Issues.

Co-Development Canada holds world film festival February 8-10

Rights, Reels and Resistance is the theme of Co-Development Canada's World Community Film Festival February 8...10 at Langara College.

The seventh annual film festival features documentaries set around the globe about social justice and environmental issues. This years theme reflects the urgent need to acknowledge and celebrate resistance and the fight for human rights in communities across the world.
