CSS Bargaining Update: Contract talks suspended for 17,000 unionized community social services workers

Collective bargaining resumed between the nine-union Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSSBA) and the provincial Community Social Services Employers’ Association (CSSEA) this past week to negotiate a new contract for 17,000 unionized workers in the sector.   However, on Monday, talks were suspended after the latest proposal put forward by the employers’ association failed to meet the needs identified by workers in the sector.

BC’s 22,000 specialized health care professionals reach tentative agreement

BC’s 22,000 specialized health professionals working in hospitals and communities around the province reached a tentative agreement late Wednesday night after more than nine months of negotiations between the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) and Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC). Jeanne Meyers, Executive Director of Health Sciences Association of BC (HSA), is lead negotiator for the HSPBA.

Upcoming HSA Steward Workshops: Basic Steward Training and Basic OH&S Steward Training Winter 2023

Workshops are listed under Steward Education events.   Basic Steward Training (three-day workshop) Stewards play a vital role in the union. This workshop will teach new stewards the skills to enable them to serve confidently in their role. Workshop content includes the role of the steward, organizing your chapter, grievance handling, and basic contract interpretation.

CBA Bargaining Update: Bargaining continues, progress stalling

The CBA bargaining committee resumed negotiations with HEABC on October 19 – 21, 2022. We have made some progress and are close to resolving outstanding non-monetary matters and we’re currently working to reach an agreement on changes to hours of work in both Article 14 and 15.

Provincial Health Officer order restricting certain health care workers to working at a single site lifted in Vancouver Coastal Health Authority

Important information for HSA members affected by the order HSA has learned that a Provincial Health Officer order from April 2020 restricting health care workers from working at multiple sites was lifted in Vancouver Coastal Health Authority by an exemption issued by the local Medical Health Officer on July 7, 2022. The employer failed to inform the union of the change affecting health care workers at long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, and provincial mental health facilities.
