2023 HSA Annual Convention set for April 19-21; Deadline for resolutions is February 3, 2023

HSA’s 52nd annual convention is set for Wednesday, April 19 to Friday, April 21, 2023 in Vancouver. The convention will be preceded by a full day of education workshops on Tuesday, April 18. Deadline for submitting resolutions for consideration at the April convention is Friday, Feb. 3, 2023. All resolutions must be voted on by members at local union chapter meetings before being submitted to the union office.

CSS Bargaining Update: Work continues as discussions pause

After returning to the negotiations table in mid-September, talks continued over wages and compensation with a focus on making gains in the areas that members have mandated the bargaining committee to achieve in this round of bargaining.   As it stands, the parties still do not agree on how to reach a tentative agreement that includes a fair and equitable compensation package, meaningful recognition and reconciliation for Indigenous workers, supporting psychologically safer and healthier workplaces and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.  

HSA Welcomes BC Health Human Resources Plan

As health science professionals across the province continue to report critical staffing shortages, crushing workload, and increasing concern about how they can maintain a high standard of care for patients, HSA welcomes the introduction of a health human resources strategy today by Health Minister Adrian Dix and Advanced Education Minister Anne Kang. “HSA members have reached their breaking point. This action plan provides a promise that there is light at the end of the tunnel,” HSA President Kane Tse said.

CBA Bargaining Update: Employer frustrating efforts to address recruitment and retention, pay gap

Bargaining committee members, along with the committee members from other unions, have been bargaining for the last three weeks. Discussions are now on hold while we look at scheduling new dates, and we anticipate talks will resume in late October or early November.

HSA wins $10 million settlement for health science professionals

Following a major victory by HSA, close to $10 million will be paid out to health sciences professionals covered by the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) 2014-2019 collective agreement. HSA is the lead union in the HSPBA, which represents 20,000 specialized health professionals working in hospitals and communities across BC.

CBA Bargaining Update: Employer Now Pushing For Concessions In Bargaining

For most of the last two weeks the HSA, along with seven other constituent unions of the CBA, has been at the bargaining table with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC) working towards a tentative agreement. We had hoped to have good news about progress but, unfortunately, we are not satisfied with where negotiations stand at this time.
