Vancouver Coastal Health invites participation: staff forums on practice leadership redesign

Vancouver Coastal Health has invited Health Science Professional staff to attend VCHs staff forums regarding an employer-initiated process to review the current practice leadership structure. The meetings will be held at a variety of locations August 8-12.

Vancouver Coastal Health has contacted members directly to announce their plan to address inconsistencies in how VCH health science professionals are supported and supervised. Their aim is to create a regional leadership structure that will standardize health services and ensure patients have equitable access to safe, evidence-based care.

The process is expected to unfold over the next 18 months. No job losses are expected, but members working at grade levels 3, 4, 5 or 6 will participate in a VCH survey and may expect changes to roles, responsibilities, grade level and reporting relationships. Focus groups for representatives from grade 1 and 2 positions will help identify practice support needs and a Working Group will be established with a cross-representation of stakeholders, including staff, unions and leaders from various sites and locations in the health authority.

HSA, on behalf of members of the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association, will actively provide input on these matters so as to ensure compliance with the collective agreement. Discipline-specific member representatives will accompany HSA representatives at any VCH meetings.

Please note that VCH will be gathering data on PTs and OTs before other allied health professions. They are not including those professions covered by LM consolidation initiatives.

If you have any questions, please contact HSAs Kathy McLennan or Benson Ho at 604-439-0994 or toll-free 1-800-663-2017.
