Nominations now open for the David Bland Memorial Award

Do you know someone who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of occupational health and safety, improving the lives of their fellow HSA members? Consider nominating them for the David Bland Memorial Award.

In 2005, David Bland was killed at his workplace by a former client.  David worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor at Richmond Mental Health.  His tragic death served as a somber reminder that more needs doing to prevent incidents of violence in the workplace and to protect health and social services workers on the job.  To honour David, and to recognize the efforts of health and safety advocates, the HSA Board of Directors established the David Bland Memorial Award.

Do you know a current HSA member who:

  • demonstrates leadership in the area of occupational health and safety,
  • is an effective role model and advocate for the health and safety of HSA members and
  • has taken initiative on a specific local issue in order to improve the health and safety of HSA members at their workplace?

Consider putting their name forward for consideration. Please complete the application form here and return it to @email by Feb. 28, 2018. Past recipients of the award can be found here.

Nominations will be reviewed by HSA’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee. The recepient will be announced at the HSA’s 2018 Annual Convention being held April 26-28.
