WE ARE THE UNION DELIVERING MODERN HEALTH CARE

Long ago, health care was just a doctor assisted by a nurse. In the last century, successful delivery of care has developed into a team approach. Modern health now relies on the specialized skills of a third group -- the highly-trained health science and community social service professionals who belong to HSA.

Patients who are dealing with a chronic disease, acute illness or serious injury may encounter six, seven or more different health care professionals in their journey to recovery and rehabilitation.

HSA represents more than 20,000 health science and community service professionals at over 250 hospitals and agencies in acute care, long-term care and community health, including workers at child development centres and transition houses.

  • HSA is moving health care forward. You can count on our members to advance modern health care by using the smartest, most innovative tools and techniques.
  • HSA is the glue holding modern health care together. You'll find us working at every level of health care -- prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
  • HSA puts patients first. We are dedicated to better access, better outcomes and better health in a public health care system that benefits all British Columbians.

Outside of the acute care setting, HSA members support people living in group homes and residential care, help development of children in child care, and support women escaping violence.
