HSA report on Workplace Racism now available

From Jan. 20 to Feb. 7, 2020, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) HSA members were invited to complete an online survey investigating experiences of racism at work. Over 200 HSA members working in health care and community social services shared personal accounts of how racism and white supremacy operate within their workplace cultures and impact their daily lives. Survey results provide insight into how discrimination operates at the institutional level, impeding career growth, professional development, and employment opportunities.
HSA annual fall regional meetings schedule set
August 7, 2020
HSA’s annual fall regional meetings have been scheduled for September and October 2020. Regional meetings are an excellent forum for HSA members to review the issues and activities of the past year, and discuss the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
All meetings will be held online. Participants will be required to join meetings through a virtual platform.
While the meetings are open to all members in the Region, only eligible delegates will receive wage replacement for the day.

HSA is currently working with Strategic Communications (Stratcom) on a research project that includes a series of online focus groups to gather insight from our members on a variety of health care related issues.
You may receive a phone call from Stratcom between August 5 and August 17 asking if you want to participate in this project. There is no obligation for members to participate, this is a voluntary request.
All HSA health care professionals urged to respond to survey on racism and discrimination in the health care system

Health care workers throughout British Columbia are asked to share their experiences with racism and discrimination in the health-care system as part of a new survey launched by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond on Friday, July 31, 2020.
Final reminder - HSA nurses eligible for college fee reimbursement - apply to HSA by July 31, 2020

As part of the Nurses Bargaining Association 2019-2022 collective agreement, effective April 1, 2020, HSA registered psychiatric nurses are eligible for partial reimbursement of fees paid to the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
The rate of reimbursement has been set at $215 per member.

HSA fall annual regional meeting and member-at-large elections schedule set

The dates have been set for HSA’s Annual Regional Meetings as British Columbia’s restart gets underway this summer. The meetings will be held through September and October, and will be held on a virtual platform. There will be no in-person Regional Meetings.
Each HSA chapter is entitled to at least one delegate to participate with voice and vote in the Regional Meeting. Election of additional delegates is conducted at local chapter meetings.

Last month Health Minister Adrian Dix reported on racist actions of healthcare workers. HSA strongly condemns these actions and has made a commitment to provide access to educational opportunities on anti-racist issues.
