Tara Chen acclaimed as Region 6 representative on HSA Board of Directors

Tara Chen will join the HSA Board of Directors to represent members in Region 6. Chen was acclaimed after the deadline for nomination for election to the board of directors passed with no further nominations.

A member of HSA since 1999, she is a speech language pathologist. She is currently in her second term as a member-at-large in Region 6, and has served as a Chief Steward for Providence Health Care Small Site Cluster, which includes her worksite of St. Vincent’s Hospital (Brock Fahrni) for six years. Prior to that, she worked at Lions Gate Hospital and served as a general steward for five years.
 
She is active in her work and pursues patient-centered research focused on improving services for elders and promoting healthy aging. She has made educational presentations to the BC Seniors’ Advocate, Alzheimer’s Society, and Parkinson’s Society of BC to increase awareness of communication and swallowing disorders.

She will join the Board of Directors on adjournment of the union’s 2020 annual convention April 1-3, for a two-year term, which expires at the conclusion of the 2022 HSA Convention.
 
Chen will replace Nancy Hay as the region’s representative on the HSA Board of Directors. Hay served in the position for four years.
