Scholarship Opportunities Available Through HSA

HSA Aboriginal Scholarship
Eligibility:

  • Open to Aboriginal students who are continuing or proceeding in any HSA field leading to a recognized certification, degree or diploma at any college, university or other public post-secondary educational institution.  Primary consideration will be given to residents of BC attending a Canadian post-secondary educational institution.
  • Scholarship is based on a combination of scholastic merit, financial need and commitment to pursuing education in an HSA related field.
  • Previous scholarship or bursary winners are ineligible.
  • Completed applications received by February 23, 2018.
  • Funds will be awarded upon verification of registration and attendance in the course/program.

HSA Bursary
Eligibility:

  • HSA member in good standing at the time of application or the son or daughter of an HSA member.
  • Open to students continuing or proceeding to a full-time program of study in any field leading to a recognized degree or diploma at any public post-secondary education institution.
  • Bursary is based on financial need, in addition to academic merit.
  • Previous scholarship or bursary winners are ineligible.
  • Completed applications received by February 23, 2018.
  • 20 x $1,000 full time bursaries awarded
  • 4 x $500 part time bursaries awarded.
  • Funds will be awarded upon verification of registration and attendance in the course/program.

HSA Scholarship
Eligibility:

  • HSA member in good standing at the time of application or the son or daughter of an HSA member.
  • Open to students continuing or proceeding to a full-time program of study in any field leading to a recognized degree or diploma at any public post-secondary education institution.
  • Scholarship is based on academic achievement.
  • Previous scholarship or bursary winners are ineligible.
  • Completed applications received by February 23, 2018.
  • 10 x $1,000 scholarships awarded.
  • Funds will be awarded upon verification of registration and attendance in the course/program.

 Madden Memorial Education Fund
Background:
The Madden Memorial Education Fund was established in 1984 following the death of Joe Madden, who was HSA’s Assistant Executive Director from 1974 – 1984.  Through the Madden Memorial Education Fund, HSA provides financial assistance to members attending external labour education programs.  The Fund does not cover professional development courses.  Financial reimbursement is limited to the amount of Madden Memorial Funds available.
Instructions:

  • Complete application, attach brochure and send to  @email
  • The Fund will cover registration, transportation, accommodation, meals, dependent care and one day’s wage loss to a maximum of $800.  HSA will return your application with Part 2: Approval completed.  HSA approval must be received to ensure reimbursement of eligibility expenses.
  • Payment will be made upon receipt of completed Part 3 Course Completion of the application form.
