Nominations open for David Bland Award

The David Bland Memorial Award is awarded annually to an HSA member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of occupational health and safety and who has made a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow HSA members.

The award was established by HSA's board of directors to honour HSA member David Bland,  a vocational counsellor from Richmond Mental Health  who was killed at his workplace by a former client.

Many incidents of workplace violence are preventable. The tragic death of David Bland is reminder that more needs to be done to stop workplace violence, injuries, and accidents from occuring. The memorial award is an opportunity to celebrate an HSA member who has championed positive change in their workplace pertaining to occupational health and safety.

To view past recipients of the award, visit the David Bland Memorial Award page.

Do you know a current HSA member who has:

  • demonstrated leadership in the area of occupational health and safety

  • taken initiative on a specific local issue in order to improve the health and safety of other HSA members at their workplace

If so, please complete the attached application form and return it to Miriam Sobrino at @email at the HSA office by March 6, 2019.

Nominations will be reviewed by HSA's Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the recipient will be announced at HSA's 2019 Annual Convention in April.
