HSA convention delegates hold rally to Stand up for Medicare

The Health Sciences Association of BC (HSA) will kick off its 37th annual convention Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby, 6083 MacKay Avenue.

Charting our Course is the theme of this years convention, as delegates consider a number of resolutions to set priorities for the unions future. Delegates will also participate in a noon-hour rally to defend publicly funded and delivered health care.

Highlights of the Convention include:

Friday, April 18

  • 9:30 a.m.     Reid Johnson,  President, Health Sciences Association of BC
  • 11:45 a.m.    Jim Sinclair, President, BC Federation of Labour
  • 12:15 p.m. Rally to Defend Medicare, Central Park, Burnaby at the corner of Kingsway and Patterson Ave.
  • 2:45 p.m. Keynote address by Marie-Claude Premont, Professor of Law, and founding member, Member of the Working Group on Quebecs healthcare system formed in response to the Supreme Court of Canada Chaoulli decision.

Saturday, April 19

  • 1:15 p.m. Larry Brown, Secretary-Treasurer, National Union of Public and General Employees
