Ng acclaimed as Region 3 representative on HSA Board of Directors

Jing-Yi Ng has been acclaimed to represent HSA members in Region 3 on the HSA Board of Directors. Ng was acclaimed after the deadline passed with no further nominations.   Ng is a Member-at-Large sitting on the union’s Resolutions Committee. She is Assistant Chief Steward at Burnaby Hospital and is active as a Constituency Liaison in Burnaby-Deer Lake. She works as a Clinical Pharmacist at Burnaby Hospital and has served as a member of the union’s Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association bargaining committee.

As part of the new Nurses Bargaining Association 2019-2022 collective agreement, HSA’s Registered Psychiatric Nurses and Registered Nurses are eligible for partial reimbursement of fees paid to the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

HSA President Val Avery will not seek re-election at union’s June convention

This past year has been remarkably challenging. HSA members have been front and centre as we manage through a pandemic that has affected every aspect of our personal lives and work lives. Unlike for many British Columbians, going home and staying home was not an option for our members. You were called upon to show up – under new scheduling, with the use of new technologies, and at increased risk.

Classification updates deliver improvements to pay

Changes effective first pay period after April 1 Upcoming changes to classifications in the Health Science Professionals collective agreement will provide significant pay increases for some Early Child Educators and increased pay for more than 30 different health science professions when they work without general supervision. As part of the 2019-2022 Health Science Professionals Provincial Agreement, a $10 million fund over three years was established to address decades-old inequities in job categories through restructuring of the classification system.

Nominations open for HSA president

HSA’s 2021 50th annual convention will include an election for the position of president. The two-year term begins at the adjournment of the 2021 convention, set for June 2 to 4, 2021 online. The president is elected by delegates to the union’s annual convention in odd-numbered years. 

Nominations now open for HSA Regional Director elections – March 19 deadline

Nominations are now open for Regional Director elections in HSA Regions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. This is an excellent opportunity for members to seek to serve on the HSA Board of Directors, contribute to the leadership of the union, and to represent the interests of other members.
