Bruce MacDonald acclaimed as Region 3 Director

HSA members in Region 3 have once again elected Bruce MacDonald as their representative to the HSA Board of Directors. He was acclaimed after the January 27th deadline passed with no further nominations.
Bruce is a social worker at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. He has been a member of HSA since 2000.
Anne Davis acclaimed as new Region 1 Director

HSA members in Region 1 have elected Anne Davis as their new representative to the HSA Board of Directors. Anne was acclaimed after the January 27th deadline passed with no further nominations. Former Region 1 Director, Suzanne Bennett, did not seek re-election.

HSA members working throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley received notice Jan 10, 2011 of a region-wide plan to consolidate health information management services in the Lower Mainland.
Important meetings to discuss how the consolidation plan may affect the jobs of HSA members working in health information management were held this week. Members who did not have an opportunity to participate in any of the meetings are invited to joing a conference call on Monday January 31 as follows:

UPDATE: Community social services: Urgent bargaining meetings

Negotiations with community social service employers broke off in December. At this time of uncertainty, job cuts, and layoffs, employment security demands are the best opportunity we have to protect jobs and vital public community services. Yet employers are asking for concessions at the bargaining table and refuse to discuss employment security or improvements to your working conditions. There is no money for wages or benefits improvements.
Your bargaining committee urgently needs to hear members' thoughts about possible options and next steps.

Health Science Professionals tentative agreement details now available; town hall information meetings scheduled

Details of the tentative agreement between the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association and Health Employers Association of BC reached last month are now available on the HSA website at www.hsabc.org.
HSA offers election campaign school

HSA is holding a 2-day, non-partisan election campaign school for members who are interested in working on election campaigns or running for political office. The school will discuss opportunities for HSA members to be involved in municipal elections scheduled for the fall of 2011, as well as a likely federal election and possible provincial election in 2011.
If you want to help elect representatives who will support public health care and community social services, or are considering running for elected office, then HSAs election campaign school is for you!
