HSA kicks off 35th annual convention Friday, April 7

The Health Sciences Association of BC (HSA) will kick off its 35th annual convention Friday, April 7 at the Hilton Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby.

HSA represents health science professionals who provide diagnostic, rehabilitation and clinical services in the health care system. HSA also represents workers in the community social services and community health care.

More than 200 delegates will participate in the two-day convention.

Ottawa (22 Feb. 2006) - International Women's Day (IWD) is the story of ordinary women as makers of history. It is rooted in the centuries old struggle of women seeking to participate in society on an equal footing with men.

The idea of an IWD (March 8) first arose at the turn of the century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and radical ideologies.

10th Annual Labour Community Christmas Dinners

The 10th Annual Labour Community Christmas Dinners will be held on Saturday, December 24th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Whalley Legion Hall in Surrey and the Maritime Labour Centre in Vancouver.

Central American tour planned to learn about HSA-supported projects

Labour Day rally to support locked-out and striking workers

Labour Day is not just another holiday, and HSA is encouraging all members to remember the struggles of working people before us that have helped achieve things like the 40-hour work week, minimum wage, and protection from occupational hazards this weekend.

In the Lower Mainland, the BC Federation of Labour is holding a Labour Day rally in support of locked-out Telus and CBC and striking Teck-Cominco workers, to be held Monday, Sept. 5 at 12 noon across from the Telus Building at the corner of Kingsway and Boundary in Burnaby.

Join the Pride Parade Sunday, July 31

The HSA Committee for Equality and Social Action (CESA) is urging all HSA members to participate in this years Pride Parade on Sunday, July 31st in Vancouver's West End. This years theme is No Turning Back.

The Pride Parade is an annual celebration for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and their friends and allies.

The Multi-Union Pride Committee will meet at 11:00 am in the 1700 block of Alberni Street. The parade begins on Barclay (East of Denman) at noon, ending with a festival from 2-6 at Sunset Beach.
